Positive impact
At Edventure Travel, we’re serious about making a positive difference. We make sure your journey has lasting social, environmental and economic benefits in the countries and communities you visit.
Travel that’s good for people and the planet
The betterment of society. A responsibly stewarded environment. Lasting economic impact in local communities. Transparent business practices.
These issues matter deeply to us. Together, they form an impact framework that drives sustainable, responsible approaches in everything we do.
Edventure Travel's model
Social impact
We’re socially accountable to the people and communities we do business with – our staff, travellers, suppliers and the local communities we visit and support. Here are a few of the ways we take care in our relationships:
- Teach travellers to be culturally aware, by briefing them on correct social etiquette, clothing requirements and acceptable behaviour in-country.
- Vet all community and environmental projects to ensure they’re viable, legal and designed by communities for genuine impact, with tangible benefits.
- Donate $50 per traveller to a local charity, NGO or social enterprise of their choice by partnering with B1G1, a global business giving movement that facilitates meaningful gifts and provides trackable impact.
- Ensure travellers know and follow correct health and safety procedures – like our COVID-safe travel policy, road and water safety procedures, and zero-tolerance of violence, firearms, weapons, drugs, bullying, harassment and discrimination.
- Support gender equality and equal opportunity by employing staff of all genders at equal pay; engaging with women’s social enterprises, charities and workshops; and educating travellers about gender discrimination in the places they visit.
- Partner exclusively with local organisations that have outstanding ethical operating practices.
Environmental impact
We’re vigilant about the energy and resources we use, the waste we discharge, the carbon emissions we create, and their consequences for our living environment. Here are some of the ways we limit our environmental footprint:
- Offset carbon for all international and domestic airfares.
- Ensure the most energy efficient and appropriately sized vehicle for each trip.
- Minimise single-use plastics.
- Engage in sustainable environmental projects.
- Avoid overcrowded locations that strain the natural environment and resources.
Economic impact
We believe in sustainable wealth creation, not hand-outs. Here’s how we create lasting economic impacts in local communities, while being transparent with our own finances, too:
- Spread out our purchases to support smaller vendors, family-run businesses, and consequently the wider community.
- Communicate tour inclusions and exclusions upfront, list the cost of community projects and service-learning programs separately from the main tour price, and inform travellers of optional or extra costs in advance.
- Support community projects involving manual labour only if they provide paid employment for local tradespeople, transport and material suppliers, cooks and homestay staff.
- Encourage travellers to purchase fair-trade products and handicrafts directly from local artisans.
Perhaps most importantly, we train everyone in our team to understand and implement our impact framework within their roles – from the staff who lead your tour, to those who lead the business. We also inform our travellers of the economic actions and reasons we take.
